The list of places is empty
The app needs your location. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → That's the Way is set to While Using the App, then tap ↻ on Home. Indoors or underground it may take a moment to get a fix - try outside. In very quiet areas, widen the distance with Within 1 km ▾.
The compass points the wrong way
Move away from metal and magnets (car bodies, phone cases with magnets, laptops) and wave the phone in a figure of eight to recalibrate. The app shows a calibration prompt when the compass is unsure.
I'm standing there but it hasn't said "That's the way"
GPS between tall buildings can be 10–30 m out. You arrive within 30 m of a statue or fountain, 40 m of a building and 75 m of a park or square. Step into the open for a few seconds.
What are city maps?
In Central London and Biggleswade the app downloads a free map of that city once (under 1 MB), so it knows the real streets: scores use the shortest walk and wrong turns are spotted properly. Elsewhere, places come from Apple Maps. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
A shared link opens the website instead of the app
Make sure That's the Way is installed and up to date, then tap the link again. If it still opens the browser, long-press the link and choose Open in That's the Way.
Does it track me?
No. No accounts, no analytics, no ads. Your location stays on your phone - see the privacy policy.
Stay safe
Look up, not at your phone - it buzzes when it has something to say. Stick to pavements and paths, and to lit, busy streets after dark.
